     PSU Drives Community-Based Conservation Efforts with RSPG Training Courses
Prince of Songkla University (PSU), by the Plant Genetic Conservation Project – Southern Region Coordinating Center, is spearheading annual training programs on the Plant Genetic Conservation Project in southern Thailand. These courses, inspired by the initiative of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn (RSPG), empower local communities and schools with knowledge and skills to document, sustainably utilize, and manage natural resources.

     The training emphasizes the importance of community-based forest reserves for green spaces and wildlife conservation. Additionally, the courses integrate nature into school curricula to foster environmental awareness and knowledge among students. In 2023, PSU conducted ten training events, both on-site and online, reaching over 700 participants from 60 communities and schools.

     Sadao Municipality and Senanarong Schools, recognized for their outstanding achievements, have successfully implemented community-based conservation initiatives. Sadao Municipality, for instance, has promoted the conservation of local community-managed forest, Khao Le Forest Reserve and integrated it into eco-cultural tourism trails. Furthermore, the center has assisted local communities in contributing over 4,500 documents of local natural resources to the RSPG Resources Database.
